Single layer PU/ memory foam tends to squish down for heavier weights. Since the air gap between the coccyx and seat surface is not maintained, the coccyx (tail bone) touches the surface of the chair and causes pain and discomfort to the user.
(Tested at 250 pounds / 112 kgs).
TECHNOLOGY
The problem: Painful contact of coccyx with surface of the chair.
Coccydynia refers to pain originating from the coccyx, or tailbone pain.
Tailbone pain can have causes that aren't due to underlying disease.
Examples include trauma to the tailbone or prolonged sitting on an unpadded seat.
Ordinary seat cushions squish down, causing painful contact of the coccyx (tail bone) and the surface of chair.
Seat cushions squish down due to two reasons:
- Compression of the foam due to weight of the person, and
- Long-term irreversible plastic deformation of the foam due to hundreds of compression/squirm cycles.
